la is a hard place to live man. Make sure you got work before you move here. the market is a bit thin right now. But, if you do decide to move here, best of luck to you.

i agree. Denver is nice, but there is a lot more here.
lots of design jobs.
there are many parts of socal to live in, and they are all different, if you want an idea on what part to move to , leave a posting describing what things you like and are important to you.
i am sure that all of us angelinos wil help you out.btw- there is a townhouse for rent in my building.

why do you want to move soler?
- shellie0
marcus is right tho. unless you have some solid relationships here it can be rough. i know a couple kids who moved here from the east coast and their partners have not found work yet. make sure you rlady has her shit together. its kinda rough if both of yous dont get jobs right away. dont spend all your savings because you dont have jobs. that'll suck. theres nothing worse than being in LA and broke. but if you get lucky, then its a pretty fun place to be.

thanx for all the advice so far everyone. I want to move cos I've been here too long, went to HS here and left then came back after college.
My fiance is from LA, so she has connections to work at movie studios, but no so much design. She know a couple people to get me leads, so i hope that is enough.
I know i like Hollywood, any affordable places that are hip/ fun like that? We like rock n' roll shows, dive bars, good food, 20-30 min. from beach, walking outdoors, etc.

I moved out to Cali a little over a year ago on a "whim"... I lived in san diego for about 6 months.. then sacramento for about 6.. now I'm in huntington beach....
this state rocks. there is SOOOO much more here than what people from the east coast think of when they think about california (Im from the east coast)
now, I'm making way more money than I ever thought I'd make being a computer nerd... I get to surf a couple times a week.. see all the greatest shows ... enjoy the most perfect weather....
yeah, I'd say do it. you can always move back if it doesn't work out.

you should describe what kind of situation you and your wife would like to live in. theres a lot of different things LA county has to offer.
you could go to the valley or to pasadena and live in a very family oriented neighborhood and possibly rent a house for 2500 a month. or, you can do the beach living thing and get a small 2 bedroom in santa monica for around 15-1700 a month. or, if you dont mind being jammed up, you can live in a one bedroom for a little less.
some people really like hollywood and the busy city life. you can find some good deals in bigger apartment buildings around west LA and Hollywood.
If you happen to find a job further south, you could live in the artsy part of long beach which is actually pretty cool and 45 minutes from LA.
i have some friends that swear to god that los feliz, silverlake and echo park are the best places ever. they're cities coming up. lots of artists and art studios. but, i think some parts are still to gnar to have your lady walking around at night.
some things to think about. i think theyres two kinds of los angelinos, west siders (more into living near beach) and east siders (more into living more 'city'). i think everyone ends up being one or the other after being here for a bit.

well, I can't "just move back" if it doesn't work out... I've got a pretty good job here, and if I leave then it goes away- I'm no better off coming back here than staying. Once i move, it's for good, you know? I want to get locked down a little more, since we're getting married and all= possibly even buy a house

if your lady is from LA she'll probably have some area in mind that she wants to be. ladies are like that. you have no choice. ;)

Thanks shellie:
we're both artists and we love the idea of being in the city- and we both really like loft-style housing. I think either a loft of a good size, or more likely a house (small) so we have a yard, etc.Anywhere near Venice that is slightly cheaper maybe? That part of the state seems pretty progressive, but I haven't seen much and i don't know jack. I really don;t know where I'll be working
- shellie0
you're planning on buying a house in LA or where you're at? where are you at anyway?
- Soler0
She really like Hollywood. It just seems too expensive, especially if we want to buy a home.
what's the commute like from Hollywood to other parts of town?
- Soler0
I'm in Denver right now. Looking to buy in L.A.
Are you self-employed or do you work for a company? shellie

anything as big as youre talking could cost anywhere between 2k + or mroe a month unless you want to get a loft in downtown LA (not so hot). they have a bunch of cheaper lofts there that are rad inside but your friend's cars will get broken into every time they come over and you cant go outside at night. venice isnt THAT cheap. i think its cheaper to get 1 bedrooms there. but anything bigger like that is almost the same prices as santa monica, especially the closer you get to the beach.

any chance of a home between 200,000 - 250,000
