I did an album sleeve and i printed it out before i sent it to the printer. Everything looked perfect but when i got the printed cover some of the type is not as clear as it should be. Is that because the printer(company) was crap or why do you think this happened? thanks guys
yes -i included the fonts

are you saying you're unhappy with the proof you got back - or the final product?
what sort of printer did you use? inkjet, laser, offset?
did you use uncoated stock?
was the text color a build or just one color?

im not smart or anything... but.. i once had the same problem. Came to find out, the color i was using for the text was not a true cmyk build. Make sure your blacks (if your using any, are 100K and not a mix... otherwise the plates will seperate.

hmm...not sure why this happend but i can give you a few tips for the future, try to send you finished product as a flat tiff @ 300dpi+ with your bleeds and everything so there is no questions as to fonts, images or anything that your printer can mess up. that's what we do in my office, we practice the tiff safe technique.

how did you save / package your fonts ?.....
- Tara0
shit, i'm not used to printing! i'm a web designer!!
i printed it out on a laser printer
but the final i got back i was not happy with.
the colors for the type were a build, not 100% black
so was that the problem?as far as the fonts- i just gave them the fonts on the disk, i don't know what you mean by packaging them
someone mentioned saving the whole thing as a tiff- but doesn't the type lose clarity that way? or is that a legit way to get things printed?
thanks guys

are you raster based or vector based when you go to print. do your image work in whatever you use, then type in either inDesign or Illustrator.
- Tara0
yeah, it was a tif brought into quark and then i did the type in there. i'm thinking it must have been a color matching problem?
there was other type on there that was white and that was crystal clear.
- strabley0
yeah it sounds like a color matching problem, possibly try it on a different printer just to rule out that possibilty

never ever use built colors (like C50 M80 Y10 K10) for (small) font sizes.
use pure black, or other 100% color combinations.
note: not more then 300% total!

I wouldn't use that 'tif safe technique' that was reccomend, screened type just isn't a good risk to make.
- Tara0
great, that clears things up.
thanks everyone
