I'm in the market for an SUV and would seriously think about getting this when it comes out...apart from the ace 35mpg it gets it's good on teh environment.

I heard that next year, Ford will be bumping up the size of the Excursion. It will seat 15 and run on crude oil...
- kinetic0
why do you need an SUV?
- Mimio0
Sure, but how much will it cost?
- kinetic0
crude oil? i heard it will have its very own oil refinery on the back
haha
- Mimio0
FYI they're discontinuing the Excursion.

dope

i love my hybrid toyota. good thing i bought when when i did, too. i read there is a 3-5 month wait for the new Prius.
i hope you buy a hybrid too.

"why do you need an SUV? "
because I live in teh mountains - is that ok?
- gabriel_pc0
jevad is one of the few people that actually has a legitimate reason to own an SUV
- Mimio0
last time I checked they had paved roads in Colorado.
- Gorbie0
Mimio- about the money thing, the toyotas and hondas were about $3k more than a comparible gas only model.
but the funny part is that all that money is trying to make up for development costs. If you go to a dealership, nobody wants to sell you a hybrid - they always try to get you to buy something else, because they have NO room for mark-up.
- jevad0
Can I jsut state, for the record, that ANYONE who drives an SUV in the city, who does not own a home in some mountains nearby or a big farm that they use it on regularly...is out of order!!
(ps I also have a dog and 2 bikes)
- jevad0
gorb have you had any problems with the hybrid at all? I heard that some dealerships try to put you off because they get like 0 mark up on them!!
- jevad0
"If you go to a dealership, nobody wants to sell you a hybrid - they always try to get you to buy something else, because they have NO room for mark-up. "
hahaha - omg teh coincidence?
- Mimio0
Yeah, I heard Honda was actually losing money on the InSight jsut to gain marketshare. I agree that the government should help subsidize hydrid cars too. i remembering hearing a fact like..."If every family in the US used a Hybrid vehicle as their primary transportation we wouldn't have to import ANY foriegn oil"
- Gilt0010
and if they (the UN) spent $5 on every person in Africa they could provide them ALL with plumbing and utilities. They could also do some serious damage to all the diseases and hunger there too.
Profitability is an ugly word...
- Gorbie0
Toyota claimed they were losing $5k on each Prius sold in the first couple years.
i believe recently they sold the technology to nissan and/or mazda so things should pick up dramatically.
hybrid technology is also equally about gas mileage as it is emissions. This Escape seems to be a "Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle".
- Mimio0
I don't think any hybrids are zero emissions. Maybe you're thinking of Grease cars?
- kinetic0
relax, i was just curious.
some people need SUVs for the winter and so they have a false sense of security...some people drive them in the city where there is absolutely no use for them
- Gorbie0
and no, jevad - smoothest running car i've ever owned.
the only drawback - if you could call it that - is that you will probably need to schedule maintainance appointments when there is a technician qualified to work on the car. there are a lot of computer controlled features on hybrid vehicles that aren't like anything else.
