pretty much open to any kind of food. describe why you like it.

tara's is town!? that restaurant by the library is excellent. Not tooo much of a scene. Eat outdoors at night and see the buildings tower over you. Pinot is almost a chain here. They're ALL good.

Great steak house. Never a scene. old school LA. Not Hollywood. Not that expensive.

that's a weird looking cow on the taylor's site

Not downtown but the restaurant I most miss in LA....Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian hotel on Sunset. My favorite on the menu is the calamari salad. I am also quite fond of the guacamole rice and the garlic chicken. A bit of a scene but the food is worth it!

The original Bob's Big Boy in Hollywood. can't beat it with a stick.

If you have $ to spend, I would suggest Lawry's. Excellent food.

my guess is not downtown is not helpful (no ride, right TT?)
Lawry's is way too too - its friggin gigantic AND a scene and not downtown
Bob's Big Boy is a bad diner
(TT hangs in NY, where the food is good)

Oh well...Tara's probably been to the Asia de Cuba in NY anway then. Wish I had more suggestions.

the lil cafe in the LACMA courtyard is good. Pentimento or something like that. there's also Grand Central Market for cheap eats.

Not downtown, but close... Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles.

East in little tokyo is awesome for sushi and chefs that are usually crankin' punk rock.
Sr. Fish right by the Geffin Contemporary has a good fish taco.
Soul Folks on Traction is good for breakfast - soul food, big ass pancakes and good strong coffee.
Phillipe's has a bad ass meat sandwich and sawdust on the floor, right across the freeway on Alameda.
I think it's also worth the effort to grab a cocktail @ the Boneventure Hotel's rotating bar. Kinda pricey, but hey! It spins!
