Just thought I'd let it out... Got fired today 'cause our main client decidded it needed to tighten it's belt and got it's budget reduced by a lot.
Now I'm the one tightening my belt...Shit...

sorry to hear that mate - chin up and all that...
- grayhood0
damn, that sucks.
something new will come up, change is good.

Isn't it ironic your website's named Occupation Zero? LOL. Just more reason to improve who ya are and what you're doing. Time off's the learning time.
- el_chilaquil0
yeah.... I guess I'm not changing that domain name now...
It's ironic, but forgive me if I don't find it wildly funny at the moment. I'm sure some day I'll look back and laugh...
- atomica0
I understand mate. Best o luck to you.
- JEWUNIT0
one client only?
damn that's ghetto

consider yourself lucky, collect unemployment and do something interesting.

what's the "design scene" in Mexico like anyway?
- trobutta0
el_chilaquil.. was searching old postage about argentina and noticed a recurring theme about your prev name being feminine. just wondering if the 'el_' was to resolve that..
rhetorical question I suppose.

you must be one bored motherfucker tobutt
- phatlee0
...so you got made redundant, not fired?

"what's the "design scene" in Mexico like anyway?"
Pretty much like everywhere else in the sense that there's good firms and agencies and mediocre ones and bad ones. Almost anything design wise, happens in Mexico city, but there's also firms iin some of the less important cities. The economy doesn't allow there to be lots and lots and lots of agencies and firms like in say... California. But it's decent. When you're fresh out of school you get paid peanuts and really the only way to make a decent living at this here is in advertising, motion graphics for t.v. or working for one of the most prestigious firms like Landor or Futurebrand or a direct independent competitor with good clients. And that's really once you get to a senior position and up (art or creative director). A creative director at one of the large agencies can make a very good living.
I worked at a small firm (10 peeps) as a senior designer. Made a decent living (until yesterday...)

err... as far as my nick here, yeah, some time ago for some odd reason everyone here thought I was a girl. But that's not the reason for the "el". It's because I used to be just plain "chilaquil" and then one day I could not log in under that name anymore.
- b_magallanes0
...as in chilaquiles?
- jox0
Wow they must've been running a pretty tight ship since your whole employment depended on 1 client!! Better off without them then I guess?
Good luck!
- honda0
el_chilaquil, you wouldn't happen to know this guy:
http://www.sincretic.comHe works in Monterrey, MX. Forgot which company though.
- el_chilaquil0
jox: well, one client (american express) was about 65 percent of all the business we did. There are many other clients, but the amount of projects given to us by amex was disproportional. We knew that and were working hard to get more business from other clients before something like this happened. Unfortunately, I'm paying for something that wasn't my fault.
honda: I don't know him personally, but I know of him and I know people that know him. He's some dude from some eastern european country (I forget which one, but I think Hungry or something) and who lives in Mexico. I have a friend (the owner of grupo W) who knows him personally.

el_chilaquil, is that good or bad news? haha
I was thinking that maybe you could contact him/company he works for, and see if they may have an opening or something.
I dunno, just tryin' to help out. We're hiring here in Orlando if your up for the move. =]

I was in a similar situation when I first started in the web-biz. I was hired on the handle the webmastering of an airport site and then 6 months later they decided that they didn't need all the people they had...myself included.
Sucks. Keep the chin up, bro.

See it like some time off to build up your portfolio etc and then come out strong on the market again! Good Luck!
