good find vespa.. just about sums up how shitty this country is and has been under 'new labour'. it's beyond a joke.

It's all true, sob. But who do I vote for to make it all nice and shiny (like it was in the old days) again?
- MR_T0
This may be cause I am almost born again english, but i can't see it getting better.
ho hum..whats on corrie tonight?
- jevad0
good article...thats the crux isn't it - there is nobody in the running that I would even want running the country - Howard? Have a laugh....

the Thatcher years weren't all that though either were they? Or Major for that matter.
I'm not a huge labour supporter either dont get me wrong but I think its far from fair to blame the condition on the recent labour govt, its an old school mentality, mismanagement and severe lack of investment over a long period of conservative rule that is largely to blame. That coupled with a serious problem with parenting, education and a disenchanted and uninterested youth that is seemingly spiralling things out of control.
There is a problem with the creation of underclasses and a growing rift between the rich and the poor which I believe is largely labours fault, its about time we saw a shift from placing huge importance on benefits for business and a little more of the worker/family orientated mentality, I'm sick of the 'good for business' rhetoric.
I believe there is also a huge morale problem caused by irresponsible, hatred breeding media which seems hell bent on perpetuating xenophobia, racism, classism and pretty much any other ism you would care to name, its also about time people there was a popular culture change away from dumbing down and lad culture etc and more emphasis laid upon culture/art/education and anything that is progressive rather than the mind-numbing drivel the masses seem to suck up non-stop.
end rant.

and what have you done for your country recently ?
- MR_T0
He he..nice one.
NT seems full of comments like these
- rasko40
what has my country done for me? I pay a shit load of tax for not much in return.
But I dont fly flags anyway and I'm fucked if I would ever fight for this country.
- anon25730
not much in return ? compared to other countries ... I doubt that very much
- vespa0
a lot of that article is about thatcher's years and a lot of other bits in rasko's rant.
"He bemoans immorality and rampant emotional incontinence. Every day feelings are exposed in the red-top press and on television. To him the symbolic event was the hysterical bow before Diana, "this absolutely worthless and trivial person"."

Rasko fell for it.... ;-)

I'm voting for someone different... We need a different perspective, whoever it is. I am worried that resentment will over whelm Britain in decades to come. Should be interesting :(
- MR_T0
I think the wave of resentment has already crashed upon these shores.
The only decent surf in the whole of the UK.

I'm fully prepared for a role as Snake Pliskin in Escape from London, I also have a huge stash of Spam™ and jalapeno peppers, I cant wait.

yea don't get me wrong i'm a born again believer too - i feel more at home in the british half-caste quorporation than i ever was in aus: "Happy the country that has produced a culture of contradiction - Speakers' Corner as well as 20 different daily newspapers"
The bit about the trains is so apt - my parents emigrated to australia from London in the 70s because the trains were delayed again one day and they couldn't take it anymore! ironic that their kids came straight back, heheh.
- DutchBoy0
oh fuck that... it's just as bad here, or possibly even worse.
Dutch govt. is undermining democracy now more then ever, and the fact that foreigners still think we are a paradise for healthcare and good social benefits for all need to look again.
All protest that arise against our (right wing, but moreover very conservative) govt. is not being taken seriously in any way.
it's a true shame!
- moth0
I blame the Daily Mail.
I love the Diana comment though. I stood on the sidelines that month and my jaw droped in amazement at people's stupidity.
- waynepixel0
Daily Mail. god I hate that fucking newspaper.
Can you please lecture me on how we where in them old days of yonder, and how to be a good uptight fuck wit.
- ChumleyUK0
I'm sick of all the rotten selfish apathy that is dripping from this place. I hope it's sorted out before the chav rules and British GDP is less than Ghana. Unfortunately it seems like the only way that could conceivably happen is with some nasty fascistic social engineering... gulp :'(
- ChumleyUK0
This place being UK not Newstoday...
