Howdy folks, well, Laidback niceness VI is all ready to go but I have run into a brick wall. My current hosting company have screwed me around and my current server is constently down, so I signed up to a new host (thanks mrdobolina). Well, heres the catch, new host is all ready to go, but my current hosting company wont release my domain name, so we cannot transfer the DNS, and I cant seem to upload to the new server becuase of this. So if anyone out there can spare about 150 megs of space i would be eternally greatfull, am even willing to paypal you for your next months hosting bill... It currently gets about 100 downloads a month
150x100 = 15gigs of bandwidth, so someone with unlimited bandwidth restrictions would be preferable.
thanks folks,
email me @ if you can help, no worries if not, as Im sure it will sort itself out soon enough.

if you are the owner of that domain than your provider has to release your domain name (i assume you mean that they don't want to update the dns mx records so it points to your new host's dns servers). they can only charge you the hosting money what is left contract wise. if they don't want to release it you can basically sue them and actually claim loses. the fact that they are down all the time can be used as an argument for claims (they don't deliver proper service), a speedy update, as well as invalidating the contract.
i don't know how you registered it, but if you did it properly you as the owner can change the dns entries yourself.
and, it's not really legal, but a good host can bypass that mumbo jumbo and update the records themselves.
on another note. unlimited bandwidth doesn't excist. there is always a catch. if you would have a so called unlimited bandwidth you pay lotsamoney.

did a quick check. saw that you are the registrant. did you register it with networksolutions.com? because it looks like it. if so, you can login and change the dns entries yourself. if not, check the site where you registered it and check where you can login and make updates.

ok, will try that, cheers. the only problem is that i cant remember who i registered it with, i got a reciept but lost it in a harddrive failure a while ago and it doesnt say on the domain records i foundonline. do you know a better place to find that out. i used domainit.com
Also, I think alot of south east asian companies offer unlimited bandwidth, with no catch, so i've heard

they only way you can have unlimited bandwith if it's sponsored or something. in the end there is always someone that has to pay. every isp pays a fee per month, they are limited to bandwith as well. if they go over it they have to pay extra (which is quite expensive). unless this is paid by your isp it cannot be free or without a catch. imagine what happens if free unlimited bandwidth would excist, the net would have a bandwidth overload.

interesting...
sucks if you don't know where you registered it and if you've lost userid / pass for it. if you can figure it out though you can always send 'em an e-mail.

no, i have the details for tonydolan.com, but its soulshine.org that i dont have.

it's hard to figure out where you registered it. sometimes you do get the info on a whois, most of the time you don't or you can deduct it from the whois tech data etc. in your case i can only see ozhosting.com as technical contact and web4u.cc as dns entries. rings a bell?

both sites are down but i can pingthem ok. wtf?
- rabattski0
oi. soulshine! damn. refering to your tonydolan.com. anyways, they do share the same dns servers. don't get a ping return on those dns servers as well. might be down. anyways, in all the records your name is mentioned. you should be able to update the records although i see those prohibitions in the status. looks like someone is fucking you. you really should try to find out where you registred it.

And sexypixel, just give me a shout sometime if you have a large file you need to serve. I have a reseller package (which I would never resell) that has "unlimited" transfer and storage, so it's not a problem.

thanks fate, I might take you up on that offer
