just got back from watching it, though I was kind of bored by Gondry's personal DVD, I really enjoyed what he did with this film. It kinda reminded me of every bad relationship I've ever been in, at the same time it made me think maybe they weren't so bad. Or, I'm more content and accepting of the fact that people can stick together for reasons that somehow outshine all the drama that comes with staying together. It's interesting to see what the human mind will endure just to satisfy a psychological dependency like security.

I totally agree. I too enjoyed the movie and realized what a (cough! cough!) I was and no matter how much I wanted to hide from the truth that the human heart can't hide from what it really wants. It's your brain that keeps (cough! cough!)..ucking with you or me for that matter. I haven't seen "Being John Malcovich", which they was really well done as well.

I own Being John M*, go rent it. Great flic.
Gondry and Kaufman hooked up in 2001 for a film called Human Nature, but I heard it blew big time. Anyone see it?

some people know Human Nature but I really enjoyed it. It is a fun movie with some strange humor. Worth a rental if nothing else.

Eternal Sunshine was a wonderful film. Kate Winslet does a great American accent.
I also recommend Human Nature. For those interested, it's much funnier than Eternal Sunshine. Stars Rhys Ifans and I think he's great. From Twin Town to Notting Hill... he's always good for a laugh.

derek, I think I remember a glimpse of Elijah Wood with upside down eyeballs... is that what you're referring to? there was definately something wrong with his eyes, but wasn't able to figure it out.

The heart wants what it wants, I agree. I really enjoyed this film. If you're in love too, I'd recommend you go watch it. Made us feel all fluffy inside. :)

I loved the film. I think it could do a lot for couples.
The reviews are a shame though.

undoubtedly one of the best movies I've seen in the past year or so. Gondry displayed everything with brilliance and got some magnificent perfomances out of Carrey and Winslet ... great film all around.
It never aspired to be too much, and you watch the entire film entertained and interested ... and by the end of the movie you realize that this was a truly beautiful love story that never resorted to forecfeeding you anything in a cliche hollywood style. Beautiful film .. simple as that.

Saw it on Saturday night. Great movie, definitely agree with you ronaido on the way people can stay together despite all the drama. Definitely found the movie a positive/optimistic look on love though. Besides the whole motif of 'if it's meant to be it will be,' I think the idea of risk was much stronger. The fact is, if you're never willing to put yourself out there to get hurt, you'll never gain love in return.
Love is a risky endeavor, it requires a lot of faith and trust if it is ever to blossom. So, I figure hey, go out there, put yourself at risk, just don't be stupid about it.
