anyone read it? any personal remarks / experiences /comments regarding those 10 things? does everyone agree? i've read it and must say agree with all of 'em.

I like #10 the most. Reminds me of the Makelas saying "The Audience is Real".

i agree with them but they are mostly common sense. and i did learn most of them in school , and yes, some in the workplace. i wouldn't describe school as "100 % fun" either like he did in #2 I think it was

Good stuff. McDonough has definitely added a few ideas to my list of 'Things To Know' once in the industry.

I agree, but quibble with his percentages. I'm not sure I'd characterize the talent-work-luck ratio as 33-33-33% ... I think it's more like 10-45-45% "if you look around." I'm also not sure I'd say 95% of all creative profession is shit work, maybe 85% ... or maybe I've just been lucky. ;) I can barely handle it at 85% ... if it was any higher I'd do something else.

i've got a couple of small issues actually. #1. talent, hard work and luck indeed. but self promotion and networking also belongs in that equation (although he covered networking the the luck bit which isn't actually correct). #2. 95% is actually a little bit over the top. but it feels like 95% to be more exact.
what i missed a bit in that list is that as a designer you are part of a process. a process that is limited by rules, either commercial and/or communicative. that quite often you have to compromise and that you cannot be bigger or more important than the process.
