how do you get your links to have an orange background when you hover over them? Just like on the friendly neighbourhood Newstoday site!?

It's all in CSS baby. It's pretty easy to setup in Dreamweaver. You just change your hover state.

cause I want to - I get ideas of how I want to my portfolio to look but then these little details that I want to use hinder me cause I dunno how to do them - don't have any friends that design on the web and I can't pay anyone so I might aswell try to pick up what I need for personal use...

i understand. and i can understand the somewhat frustration. but i think you learn more from a good resource such as a book or a manual when you're starting out. most of the time you get too technical answers if you ask technical questions. understand what i mean? just helping out.
