IS it possible to use an image as a border ?
ie. border-right: xxxxxx.gif;

afaik, i dont think so. but you can set up a table with borders as table cells and set the bg in those.

You can use CSS for image placement, but it's not by using the border property. Essentially, it's something like this:
background: url(yourimage.gif) repeat-y left;You can also align to the right, bottom, repeat -x (horizontally), among other things. Check out Eric Meyer's book to unleash the power of css
