Contemplating.
What's the best way to move to a new city across the country and find a new job, apartment, etc.? Do you plan or do you just go?
What has your experience been like?

Find any relative possible to crash with for a little why you find job/apt/etc...

can I come?
save up at least 3 months of living expenses. ship all your stuff via amtrak. go.

i moved to seattle by myself half a year ago from the east coast. i would say, the number one thing is save your money and spend it frugally until you get set up in your new home. also i was lucky enough to have a family member and some friends here and that has made all the difference.

Well, I'm finally doing it!
Moving to Hermosa Beach this weekend...driving from NJ to CA as quickly as humanly possible.
I can't wait to get to my new apartment...60 seconds from the sand, baby!

i have done it twice, once to dallas, and in the process of moving to nyc.
i would never do it until i have a job in the city i am moving to, maybe you will even luck out and they will pay some of your moving expenses. i personally like moving to a new place all by myself, i am sure this will not be the last time i do it, but i could never do it without knowing that i have a cashflow once i move.
i am shipping all my stuff with united van lines. never use a moving company that does not come to your house and look at your stuff (and give you a 'not to exceed' price), there are alot of companys online that will give you a low price based on an estimate you give them, but they will load you stuff, and then say that it ended up weighing more and will not give you your stuff until you pay them.

brooke, thanks you're a gem!
peteski, what's this?
thanks, ldww...I decided to just pack my suv and drive it. 43 hours with my chihuahua wingman and two audio books (The Davinci Code + The Art of War)...should make for some great soul-searching!

If you're moving far, far away... Don't forget your lightsaber.

Depends where you're going, what you want to do, how much money you have and what your personal circumstances/reasons are.
Give me a shout offline and I can give you some advice. I did it twice - once from NYC to Ft. Lauderdale and another time from NYC to London. Not to mention I'm doing it again from NYC to New Zealand in Nov.
