Video editing question

Alright, I am working on this video that has to be digitally edited, and I have all the stuff necessary on my computer i.e. firewire and the software and whatnot. Now the problem is that i don't have a video camera of my own that is of minidv format and that is the format of the tapes i need to be editing. I believe I have seen a device that is just the vcr function of a video camera which can playback tapes and has an IEEE out port only, but not record new footage. This is what I need, and I would imagine that it is cheaper than getting a minidv camera. Does anyone has any idea what I am talking about and how much it would cost? thanks.

not to sure about that vcr thingy you're talking about but you can rent / buy miniDV decks. why not borrow someone's camera? if you're thinking of doing somemore editing in the future it might be worth it to buy a miniDV camera. they sell for pretty cheap these days and if all u want to do is capture footage then u dont need all the bells and whistles.

Sounds like you're talking about a vtr deck. I would suggest just getting a camera with rca in, and DV/out that way you can run other formats through the camera as a digitizer and the send it directly into any format via the DV out. Hope that helps

I'd love to help but I can't read that much without wondering off.
sorry.

actually decks alone are more expensive than cameras. just get a cheap miniDV cam -- it will do the trick. ...and no, don't borow one from a friend as running any camera as your deck wears it out (in the end cameras are designed to record not digitize and you should do the second one only with you cam).

Is this what your looking for ?

No, I think that's just a signal converter...can't put a miniDV tape in it, as needed...the right solution...a miniDV deck.
HOWEVER...
I had the same dilemma last week, so I stole my parents' miniDV cam and it worked freakin' great.
Look, if you can, just buy a miniDV camera, it's not much more expensive, but far more useful. Or bum one off your friend for a little while. Totally.

OK, go to Circuit City, get a cheap lowend Sony Mini-DV, capture your stuff, then take it back and return it within 14 days.
