Cingular buys AT&T Wireless... http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/040217/t…
so my question is, what does that mean to me?
i am a ATTWS subscriber on the GSM network, and is not too happy with the reception (and i live in the middle of Silicon Valley!).
So will the signals now merge? Will I have better reception now?

I work internal for Cingular. Here is part of an email sent to us.
"Customers of the new company will have access to the largest GSM network in the United States. GSM is the world’s most widely used wireless technology with nearly one billion customers in more than 200 nations. Because both companies use the same technology, the network integration will bring customers almost immediate improvement in coverage and call quality. Cingular customers also will have the widest choice of handsets and devices in the industry"

what i've read is it's gonna get crappier for cingular & at&t customers for awhile before it gets better. y'know, that merging of internal logistics and shit.
but i'm all for a stronger gsm network in the US... i can barely get a signal with Cingular in my bedroom (albeit it's flawless in SF city limits, go fig).

awesome!
so when [estimate] do you think we can start to see that improvement?

kpl, ever used the gprs wireless web? isnt it like 1mb/sec and always connected?

yeah, i'm with you kpl, i've been in some remote places (including the slopes of CO), and yet there are crazy times where i don't get reception in downtown SF! and living in Palo Alto i still have lots of bad spots. i thought if i moved to silicon valley, i wouldn't have tech troubles... but it seems that ever since i moved here i've had more troubles than ever (from high speed internet to cell phone reception)

i see it being atleast 2 months before anything has began to merge. As for high speed-
"
In addition, the new combined company will be well positioned to deliver unmatched services for business customers, including high-speed wireless connectivity for PCs and wireless e-mail devices – such as BlackBerry® -- for mobile executives.

Hey Fits...any idea how T-Mobile customers are going to be affected? I was told that T-Mobile uses Cingulars network here in SoCal. It must be true since both providers, at least in my neck of the woods, have the same dead spots.

Thats a good question pocho! I have no idea how the other wireless companys will be affected. I know that they will do everything within their budget to compete though.
