well no shit that's not the reality for all schools, but it's an example of a county that DOES have them and that's what this thread is about isn't it, a school wanting to use macs. i didn't add that comment to suggest world domination.
again, i used my neighbor as an example, i realize not all PC's are like that but damn, that just stuck with me. i couldn't believe how much a pain in the junk it was for this guy to open something.
macs aren't susceptible to the same attacks that PC's are so that is something for a school to consider.

dude... anytime you ask a question like "why is mac better than pc" you're gonna get a brawl on here!

these schools are also equipped with some sort of network administrator, Im sure. Not some guy that wants to play halo.

yeah, trust me, this isn't the richest area of the city.
this link should be of some help for your poster:

again, mrdobolina, it was an example of what you have to sometimes go through to properly run a PC and by the way my neighbor is a network administrator.

i was half-joking, chill.
I have been doing some reading recently (for my Msc.) regarding accessibility to education mainly for disadvantaged communities. So I would range different priorities on school purchasing budgets. I was also looking into computer 're-use' projects where organisations will collect 2nd hand computers and upgrade them up for schools. Most of the research on that was focussed on the wider availability of PC's and easier integration of pc's to the education sector etc. There was also the issue of having someone in the schools competent in mac's for maintenance, training etc.
ill shut up now

I can allow my firewall access to anything in 5 seconds.

'whats the justification for educating children on a platform that undoubtedly the majority of them wont use when they enter employment'
Stupid arguement, it's not the system, it's what you do on it.. we all learnt things we didn't need know later in life at school.
The lack of viruses and ease of administration are probably the best reasons to choose mac.

that was a tongue-in-cheek stab at the age old Mac-vs-PC rant : it wasnt an argument. Ill make my jokes more obvious the next time....

No way.
Re-builded PC's + Linux = good idea.

doesnt it make sense that if most private homes have pc's to have the same platform in schools? It would be great for a kid to burn some school work to a cd and then take it home and not know how to open the file on his/her pc because mac omitted the file extension.

Well, if 1000 computers is the target, why not buy Macs for some purposes (video editing, internet, various learning activities) and PC's for others.
Sorry I'm not addressing the poster issue ;) But doesn't that sound like a good idea?
- fate0
you know, since they ARE so interoperatable and run the same programs and everything ;)
- mrdobolina0
if they got all macs, all the kids at the school would start wearing architect's glasses and black clothes all the time and drinking latte's in the school cafeteria instead of milk... :D
just playing.

- mrdobolina0
oh I know.

very true fate, very true. best of both worlds since they all integrate together. hmmm...silentseven, any chance you can switch their focus to using both?
i'm not against PC's, i just wish both systems were seen as just different tools instead VS. granted i've been a hardcore mac person since i was 8, but i'm not close minded to PC's, even though it may have seemed that way in my earlier posts.
i have to agree with you there mrdobolina, that would suck. steve job wannabe's scare the hell out of me.

holy crap people.
It is a friggin computer!
Who cares if your computer runs photoshop 2 seconds faster... or if your flash is two seconds slower... it is a tool. If you look at computers now, they pretty much do the same thing at the same time. I am sure more than half of you in here don't use all the power that your computer has.
smile, be happy, go outside...
and make life easy, but 500 pcs and 500 macs.
can't we all just get along
- mrdobolina0
noone took it that far, why dont you go outside.

i just came in from a little excerise. Decided I would eat lunch and look at newstoday.
I don't want to start a fight or anything, but I do think that this thread is pushing it. I understand that everyone has opinions, my question is, why argue about. A computer is a tool, right? Does it matter if your computer crashes, or has bugs or runs a program two seconds faster? Not really...
I think that the person who started this thread, is not looking to argue, but to solve a problem. My suggestion is to allow the user to decide and split the difference. 500 pcs and 500 macs. That will allow the user to have a choice of machine, at the same time to learn the differences and decide which is best for that user(student).
if i rubbed you the wrong way, i am sorry, but what I was trying to say is that is not important enought to get into a heated debate about pc or mac. Can you guess which one I am using right now?
