How do I make part of my Flash file transparent? Is this done from the color mixer or via actionscript?

in your embed code.
wmode=transparent
just make sure you dont have anything covering the background of your flash movie and you are fine.
Easiest way to do this is to use Dreamweaver. Click your flash movie and click the parameter button on your properties palette.
then add the code. and it will add it to both tags.

It's done in the html on the page it resides on. Just set a new parameter like so:

Okay, part II: Is it possible to create a dynamic background? Has to be possible, but how? DHTML?

You can pass along java to change the bg on button clicks, timers, etc.

Thanks Nirvous. Can you perhaps recommend a tutorial site for this?

that whole 'transparent' background bit doesn't work on IE on a mac... not sure about other mac browsers.

Only works in explorer though, far as I know. (transparent flash that is)

and not even all Explorer's apparently, seems to be a very sketchy function.

Well, crap. My client happens to use a Powerbook himself, so that's not good. I'll have to investigate further. Thanks for the heads up!

You could set bg as an swf at 100% in width and height, and place another swf on top of it, on a layer, and then have the 2 swfs communicate using local connection.
good luck.
