hullo all.
i've recently placed a new version of my portfolio up. i would very much so appreciate if you could find the time to offer some feedback about it.
thank you so much. :)

its nice, the portfolio pieces taking quite some time to load...

I think you need to decide whether or not you are a programmer or a designer. Both sides will develop in time. Right now your work looks light on both sides.
I was told years ago to choose whether or not I should be an artist or a designer. That pissed me off so much I proved the guy wrong. Please get offended by me telling you to choose.
- jkosoy0
it'll take more than that to offend me, sorry to disappoint.
but you do gotta give some slack here. my work is my work. i'm 22 years old and not a prodigy. so i've gotta build as i go. :)
i appreciate the comments though. i'll think long and hard about how to prove you wrong. :P

Cool.
Just hope someone who means something to you offends you. :)
I am cutting you slack. I could say some harsh words about your work, but you are a fresh kid.
- jkosoy0
hahaha. i'm not sure if i appreciate you holding back or not. :)
i think 'fresh kid' is the key term here, though. i'm a programmer and have plllllleeennnttty of time to get better at it. i hope.

one point:
i would consider making the portfolio screenshot buttons fire onClick versus onRoll/onMouseOver...
they're so close together which makes the port view switch way too fast IMHO
good luck!

steak&liquor i was hoping to see your site...

I've gone back and forth on the onClick for the rollovers. A few people I had crit this earlier suggested the onRollOver, and I thought it nicer.
I've got the code for onRollOver commented out...so its a quick fix either way. maybe i'll take a few more opinions on it from here before i make a final decision on it.
:)

I'm with versa, that was my exact train of thought. I would much rather deal with one click than have to look back and forth to make sure I stay on the button to view the work.
- jkosoy0
good point.
changed to onRelease. you like better?
- versa0
it makes for a better experience for the people that you want viewing your site
the onRelease fire ironically requires less effort
keep at it!

Much better, and the visited state is much appreciated. The buttons aren't that prominent tho, might get over looked by someone in a hurry, just a thought...why not tighten up the copy, and carry over the thumbnail idea to be more consistent, plus make people more aware that there are additional screen shots.

"Much better, and the visited state is much appreciated."
actually, i just found a bug that i can't solve so i took the visited state out for now. :(
"why not tighten up the copy, and carry over the thumbnail idea to be more consistent, plus make people more aware that there are additional screen shots."
how would you suggest tightening up the copy? i'm open to the idea, i'm just not sure what you mean. :)

Site works well but the overall feel doesn't do anything for me. Too basic imho.
- jkosoy0
a fair opinion. i like to keep things nice and simple. especially since i'm not much of a visual designer. :)
- bug0
what I meant about the copy is tighten up the leading, maybe try a nice crisp pixel font, not put everything on it's own line, take out some things like "visual design" it's too obvious a thing to be mentioned. That should leave some room for a few thumbnails...

-so i guess i'm wasting my time here, i'm going to sleep. peace out, good luck...
- jkosoy0
ah.
the wording i can change, and the line spacing is something i can play with on a later version. i've spent the better part of the last month trying different ways of placing the text and this was what i found myself happiest with.
i love pixel fonts and its painful to not use one, but i purposely wanted to avoid them in this case. there's no particular reason for this, but it is one thing that i'm dead set on and won't budge on.
i will consider how to get real thumbnails up there. the site itself is a little wider and higher than the dimensions appear (the stage is larger than i use), which will give me some options.
i'm not gonna do thumbnails at the moment now though. eventually. :)

"so i guess i'm wasting my time here, i'm going to sleep. peace out, good luck... "
not at all. i just don't really know how to respond to designing "basic" beyond that. if i'm remotely skilled at anything, its code. i'm actually ecstatic that the site looks as good as it does, and want any feedback i can to improve on it...
thanks for all your help. i really appreciate.
- bug0
no problem, if anything i said helped, than cool...
but seriously, i'm going to sleep
:)
