Is it best to ask for a percentage you think?
- tfs__mag0
53,320 would be closer to what backend developers/programmers make.
i do both programming/design with 5 yrs experience and am just now getting to that range.
- Gorbie0
more like $53
you're talking Canadian money.

Yeah I'm in the southeast.
- Gorbie0
yes. i think a percentage is more appropriate, and less arbitrary.

The general average of inflation per year is about 3% (ie. the cost of living goes up 3% each year). If you've exceeded your employers expectations you should ask for at least 5% - if you work for a big corporation they usually have a company budget for raises - unfortunately this means that you may not get as much as you want if lots of big wigs in the company get big raises. But generally, your manager probably already has their mind made up on how much they want to give you - asking is just a companies way of being polite.

Brundlefly:
What i MEANT to say is that $53,320 American is $40,000 Canadian, or something like that... but anyways I was just making a dumb point about nothing.Do you find my stupidity "Mindblowing"? or the fact that our dollar really sucks compaired to the US?
- abstrakt0
i'm getting an over 40% raise in about 2 months. i was bumped 10% to "hold me off". screw that 3-5% crap.
