From this month's Wired:
The Indian Machine
Computers threatened our jobs, but ultimately made us stronger. So will outsourcing.
by Chris AndersonWorried about India's practically infinite pool of smart, educated, English-speaking people eager to work for the equivalent of your latte budget? Get used to it. Today's Indian call centers, programming shops, and help desks are just the beginning. Tomorrow it will be financial analysis, research, DESIGN, graphics - potentially any job that does not require physical proximity. The American cubicle farm is the new textile mill, just another sunset industry.

Graphic design is cultural.
It won't happen.

I've worked with a company that outsourced to a sweatshop and it was very aparent that they had bad communication skills in understanding briefs and using their brain to actually think - it was a aste of time.

(feb 02 04)Actually India has a great, vivid culture of arts.
Check out their work with movies for example, maybe youy can find something on "Bollywood" on the web. I think the number of produced films exceeds Hollywood. The budget for these films might be a bit lower then Hollywood, but nevertheless there is a great culture for producing them over there.
Have a look at some of the nice paintings coming from India too. Wether famous or not I bet you'll be pleased. Also, I wouldn't say working with graphic design for the web is limited to culture. But that's a separet issue...

I'm not worried

Are there any respected design studios/firms/whateveahs out of India?
Besides all the 2advanced v3 rips.
- Peter0
Fate, you have to cut a piece of your tongue to pronounce it.
j/k
I think there's a budget thing. No real money to make a design studio. Perhaps the same with developers/programmers there. No real money to go their own way. More just rely on outsourcing. Or more commonly, have a guy brought over...

Only mediocre designers need worry about shit like that, if you're dope, you're a hustler and you do good business, you're gonna get noticed and you're gonna get work...period.
- Peter0
I don't think that many folks here are worried about it.
Well not any more then seeing someone define a graphic designers as a "Hustler" anyways
;)
- TNDAP0
Well, I don't know how the market is over there Petey my boy, but over herin Illy Philly we have a small market for design work and a big amount of designers, most of them outputting crizzap so me getting down and vistiing companies, promoters, checking freelance jobs, sites, making phone calls, sending emails, etc., ect. constitutes hustling...and makes me a HUSTLER.
- Peter0
Yo yo yo, homeboy, ok.
- TNDAP0
Your display of ignorance and lack of intelligence doesn't surprise me you are one countless fucks I've encountered on this forum...you're a clone.
- Peter0
Hehe, ok, chill down hotdog. No need to get stupid.
