Only real advice is dont quit your job. If its solid and you get an ounce of creative freedom keep it. Freelance aint the move, have the work is spent either chasing the next job, or chasing the check from your last project.

get a sweet latop and go for it

"spent either chasing the next job, or chasing the check from your last project."
so true
- mirola0
is that true?

yep its true

Well, that mixed with putting in bids/doing paperwork and shit, then having to totally switch gears and make something can pull you pretty thin. It's like everyday can end up feeling like a busy weekend.

You have to be your own sales dept, accounting, project manager, and designer. Its hard enough being creative and unique in this over conjestied field where we're all fighting for those few prize projects that havent gone to the studios or agencies. Keep the coffe coaster on your desk at your job, establish a healthy side-client list before contemplating leaving. Ya gonna need a consistent flow of projects otherwise you'll be submitting the ol resume once again.

a few clients who need a steady stream of small jobs done can be irritating as shit, but also helpful in maintaining income in the off times

Don't be afraid to say no to certain clients who will, in addition to aging you, cost you more than you bargained for.
I have a client who makes sure to include..in all caps...ASAP on every piece of email she sends me. This has to be done ASAP or if she's really caffeined up..IMMEDIATELY with spacing between letters.
Avoid at all costs!

If you are going to quit, don't tell them, just don't come in.
That way you'll have an extra pay-check coming in. Sometimes even two before they notify payroll, if it's a big agency.
