Freelancers: Do you use a program like Turbo Tax? Or go with an H&R Block or tax person?

Tax person. Last year paid $150. This year it may be more due to the fact that I sold all my mutual funds (I know, tax nightmare...)

That's reasonable. I just fired my tax person after she slapped me with a huge bill.

How much did she charge?

$1100, but that was for my wife and I for 2 years. I barked at her and she lowered it to $800, but she's still quite fired.

tax person.
if you're a freelancer, DO NOT go to H&R block... the way they make their money is by taking as many people as they can, doing a quick and dirty filing, and sending them on their way thinking they got a great deal just because they give loans on refund checks.find a local tax person.
they'll help you find the way stretch your earnings and pay the least amount in taxes.
this is ESPECIALLY important if you're a freelancer. you can write off almost ANYThing if you're a freelance designer (ie: going to the movies = inspiration, equipment costs = new lappy, tv = equipment AND inspiration).it's worth the effort to do it right.

Use software and do it myself - I've just never had a tax person that got me any more money that I got doing it myself.
