get yourself a Business #, open an account, and start promoting yourself...

It depends on your personality. You have to be very clear on your strengths and weaknesses. Are you a good business person? If not, you'd better hire someone to help or you're sunk.
I just started freelancing in December and I love it but still getting used to that low level hum of anxiety that says, ok, I'm covered through the end of next month...then what? Losing the security of a paycheck is challenging (whether its a good challenge or just stressful is very dependent upon your way).

nice work on your site!
it's up to you - the market seems pretty stable now - all teh freelancers I know are getting swamped - do you have contacts you can squeeze or fondle for work?
If not I would suggest sticking with something permanent...

Network, get to know the independant producers in your area and other peope who can feed you work. I would transition slowly from a salary position if I were you.

i've just taken the plunge and i've got 2 1/2 weeks left on my current job. i've even got my first project from my current boss as well as two other projects to last me a couple of months.

congrats. i took the plunge a couple of months ago... (although at the time i didn't have the security of a job, so i guess i was forced to take the plunge or sink).
it started moving slowly, but once the new year hit it's been nothing but busy. good luck!

I do a bit of both - work part time at a design firm and during all other hours, am self-employed. I feel safer this way, since my freelance cheques are few and far in between.
best of luck to yah :)

cheers for the advice guys, I will take into consideration all that was said. I want to do it at the end of the day, I want to get as much experience as I can over the next few years before I start up my own little business!!!
Thanks Again!!!
