I'm defecting from mac and building my own PC. It's going to run 3ds max, AfterFX, Pshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, flash and has to kick ass, am I missing anything from these specs?
Video Card: ATi Radeon 9800 pro
Clock Speed: Intel Pentium 4 Fast as a motherfucker GHz
Memory: 1Gig DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) 2x512
(although if there are more slots I’d like to fill ‘em up!)
Dvd-R / CD-RW
HD: 160GB Serial ATA
I better put an internal 56k modem in there just in case, but never mind the floppy drive.
1 x firewire port
A few usb portstxH

unless the mobo has onboard ethernet, you'll also need a nic card.

Sounds good so far.
Perhaps you should consider...
One of those ultra classy neon tube pc cases? j/k
- thosethat0
you might want to invest in a 'keyboard' and a 'mouse'...
and one of those 'monitor' things to watch it on...

Motherboard?!
- shutdown0
Windows or other OS

nevermind the floppy drive? please DO mind the floppy drive, they're dirt cheap and you might get stuck where you need a bootdisk and you for some reason cant burn a boot cd.

Get a Floppy dude!
You need to insert the bootdisks of Windows XP if you have big troubles.
Get a Floppy drive. Its only 10$ or less.
- jox0
it's like $4 actually

and save a few bucks while getting a better processor. buy amd instead of pentium.
- shutdown0
you can get a 128meg usb memory device
i'm sure newer pc's can boot from these

Ethernet, good call!
I heard AMD are cheap and crash a lot, is it Pentium 4 I ask for ? I thought that 'was' a motherboard? Shows what I know.
I'm making the case myself out of chocolate buttons, with a little m&m for the reset button

I'm upgrading my current PC to something similar:
Motherboard:
MSI 865PE NEO2-FIS2RCPU
Pentium4 3ghz 800fsbRam
1gb DDR400mhz PC3200
- shutdown0
www.savastore.co.uk have an online config thing so you can make a pc with the wrong parts (so i believe)
select the parts you want and presto your pc will be built just for you...although i don't think they have the m&m reset button, skittles only

savastore looks tidy, how much this costing you m0rt? Any saving tips?
- mitsu0
a savings tip is to go AMD instead of Intel.

Go For AMD 64-bit. I heard a lot of good things about them.

amd are better processors in my opinion, and alot of time the mo-boards are better quality than intel boards.
i hardly ever build a pentium box.
why do people continue to think intel is good?
- toastie0
i dunno, i got a P4 hyperthreading CPU in my new box and it's nauseatingly fast.

Power Supply....
don't chinch out on such a seemingly insignificant piece of hardware, mid range or better....
I haven't had a floppy in my last 3 PC's since 2000, you don't need it.
:P
nice video card..... there are some others that are very good for 3d & video around the same price....
but games will look soooo sweet on the ati
