this is a quote from the review
"If you're simply looking for a good tabloid-sized photo printer, the Stylus Photo 1280 and the Canon S9000 are probably more in your price range. But imaging enthusiasts and experts in search of high-quality, stable inkjet prints meant for controlled environments should put the Stylus Photo 2200 at the top of their shopping lists. "

I've got the 2200. I mate with it regularly. I use it all the time for design class. Three of my other classmates have been compelled to do so. It makes some stunning prints, but be prepared to fight with it or the driver once in a while.

please explain fight with it?

mr clean, are you running this?
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Sto…the rip is great
- planet010
thanks for all the suggestions
so lets say i buy the epson 2200
it says it works with osX - but what is the deal with the rip thing. the rip software is not supported in X.
anyone know?
- BonSeff0
run it in classic.
its good only if you are printing eps files in quark. and it makes dandy postscript files for pdf's.
but if you are only printing photos
its prolly not for you. you prolly wont need it.happy printing

i have the 1280, great printer. only thing that sucks is that you should clean the heads before each use. get weird splotches every once in awhile. anal like that i guess.
i had the 1270 before the 1280, only reason i got rid of it is because it took a 6' drop off the truck when i was moving, D'oh.

that RIP isn't available for the 2200, is it?
- BonSeff0
it doesnt say it is available for the 3000 either but im running it
- Mimio0
The Epson CS 3000 is alright. The print quality & color isn't very good. The 5500 is a huge improvement.

Consider the HP Designjet 120's as well.

how does osX handle printing without the rip - is there some other program that handles it?

I have the 1280. It has done a great job for me. Had no problems.*

i have yet to find any RIP software for OS X, epson needs to update badly.
- mr_clean0
No, I'm not running the RIP, although I'd love to try it. Paper and cartridges are enough of an expense.
By fight with it, I mean sometimes it freaks out. So don't wait until the last minute to print, until you really get to know it. Mostly though it rocks.
