I'm thinking of getting a cheapish A3 printer just for light use in the house.
anyone got/use one of these epsons?
pro's cons of buying/using one?
any suitable alternatives that are better?thanks

yeah I have one sitting here, it was really good to start with then I didn't use it for about 6 months and now the colours are a bit shitty.. good for the price I think, they make the money on the carts

oh and its good cos you can put A3 plus paper in it for A3 bleed

i have two epson 1290's printing all day for pretty much the last year and a half. one blew up six months in, the others still going strong. pretty good all round, i'd say.

cheers rasko and throwback.
rasko: are the colours shity (from the printer) or do the colours turn shitty (on the print outs) after a while?
:(
or is it just cos its gone for a period of time without being used?

plus: are ink carts quick to go and/or pricey?

well I think it may be because I left it for a while, before that I was using it with PressReady and it would get pretty colours, ocertain shades had problems (esp greens/yellows) but generally it was good.. ink carts do go quick if you are printing full color pages.. they are 5col + blk carts, I forget how much exactly

I'm not a big fan of Epson printers. Got a 1290 at work and it's shit for anything with EPS files in, jagged low quality outputs no matter what the settings.
I'd look at HP and Canon, they've been getting some good reviews in MacUser.

the eps files thigs worry me!
anyone else agree?
ive got about an hour before i need to decide about buying one for £100

if you use a software postcript rip you can print eps's fine, something like PressReady or iProof... as far as I know all lower end inkjets dont support eps (say if you have one dropped into Quark)

ah, thats alright. i could get one of those. was trying to find power rip x or something similar the other day.
nice one.

anyone know how to get rid of unwanted blue lines appearing on your printouts?
(preferably for ever?!)
cleaning the print head works for a while but doesn/t last
