media plyer does not like this file format. does that mean i can only play them using the itunes player?
- dstlb0
Yep iTunes only, they're AAC files.

AAC is not just a Mac file format...:

that stinks.
i'm not about to install their shitware on my work computer.is itunes on yur shitlist?
- spendogg0
maybe delete some other crapware to make room for "their shitware"
- ganon0
nope...AAC is better than mp3, get with the program....
- monoblanco0
ok is there another program besides itunes that will play them?
- BrianMalcolm0
the m4p files are PROTECTED aac files... these can only play in a program that lets you authorize them (so far, only itunes that i know of)... if you import from a cd, it creates m4a files, which are unprotected... they should play in windows media player, and i'm sure there's other stuff out there as well...
does that make sense/clear it up at all?
- ganon0
yeah, search around a bit...liquid player 6.1 is one...:

I guess if you don like the format, you dont have to use it.
what does Itunes have to do with this? Does your version of itunes only encodes in ACC?I dont care if real player doesnt play Acc, mp3 is still a more popular compression format over the web, so Im still using mp3.
I dont understand.

so far iTunes keeps crashing on my PC when I try and burn cd's. And I bought the music from Apple..so no problems there. Shotty development issues I believe.

I think you've got it backwards, because Microsoft makes the crap software. You can ditch the protected M4P files by burning them to an audio CD then ripping them back into iTunes. Just make sure your preferences are set to rip into MP3's and you should be good. It's the record company's fault that the music you PURCHASED is protected. This whole thing is such BS.

bullsh*t indeed gentlemen.
like i have time to go back home, make a cd, then rip mp3s before coming back to the office.
i don't care how much better the format is.
:(
i can't play it.
not today.

ok i downloaded itunes at work.
does it play my files?
noit's trying to connect to itunes to authorize this computer to play the files.
ofcourse the firewall won't allow the player to contact itunes.
- Meeklo0
why in the first place you made them Acc?
Whats the matter with mp3? can anybody answer me?
does your computer cant play mp3?
- monoblanco0
i don't remember itunes asking me what file format i preffer.
i just hit "buy this song" assuming they'd be mp3s.
