i cant get my swf to load my xml from my website
swf will load it when swf is on web , but not from computer. im building a CDROM that will check web for updates(xml file)
need this to be driven from cd not web. any idea on how to get this to load from http address?
code:
proj = new XML()
proj.onLoad=function(){
code
}proj.load("http://beingdevious.c...
this.onEnterFrame=function(){
trace(proj.getBytesLoaded())
}--------
traces out:
"error loading http......"

You're tracing onEnterFrame - the XML doesn't load until the frame code is finished parsing (I think). Maybe I'm wrong here :)
Try putting the trace into the next frame to see if it does anything. Also try
trace(proj.Loaded) to see if you get a value at all.

traces back "false" when i put trace(proj.loaded)
traces "0" when getbytesloaded() is used
also, it will not even loadMovie("blah.swf") from web either.
what gives, MUST the files be local (in repect to the swf loading them) ?

No. Projectors on a local computer should be able to access data from a domain.

do i have to make an XML socket connection first?
on top of this, the swf is going into director for the final project on cdrom, that shouldnt be a prob though, everything else works fine

got it. you need to make a new socket connection first
sock = new XMLsocket();
sock.connect("host.hoster.com/fo...
sock.onload=function(){
the code
}sock.load("folder/folder/file.xm...

for anyone who cares

i gave up about an hour ago. im resorting to php and mysql
i just need to set up the databases and everything by wed at 1pm
probably will work better anyway
ill use php to access current projects, if no net connect.. resort to xml on CD
sound good?
- unfittoprint0
that's an option. You could try to use the code Macromedia show in the link I gave you [bottom].
you could also use PHP/MySQL from a CD, y'know?
