OMG I dropped my G4 laptop today and one of the hinges is broken Also the clasp is toast too!
Has this happen to anyone before? Is it fixable? Is it expensive? I'm scared to close the lid? :(
today is a bad day!

do you have applecare?
- piperboytoy0
Yes I have apple care but I don't think it covers external damages.
i hung my computer in a bag on a hanger with my winter coat and the bag slipped and fell on the bottom of the closet. I heard the crack too.
Now my heart is broken :<

I will wear all black until my computer if fixed. Thanks for your concerns.

This story makes me sick. I have one too. I would cry my ass off if that happened.
And where would I be without my ass?

if apple care doesn't cover it, keep an eye out on ebay for replacement parts. some people part out their macs if a major component, too costly to fix, stops working or breaks.... kind of like your situation.
or you could just do the same and sell it. you'd be surprised how much people would pay for a broken g4...
- piperboytoy0
thanks Mitsu. I will check ebay for parts.
I will go to the store and see what they can do. I hope it won't cost over $1000 for the parts. I'm wiling to pay anything between $500- $800 but anything more will have to wait.
I need my computer to work. that is the only thing I have. So It's best that I take care of it and just swallow the lost.

damn piper, thats a tough break. fucking with your livelihood.
- auricom0
Applecare won't cover it, sorry. It's like a car warranty, if you wreck your car, warranty won't cover it.
so sorry to hear that man, you may be better off trying to find one that doesn't work for parts. Or you may be better off to sell it and put your money towards a new one.
your probably looking at the price range you mentioned to fix it. sorry man. it is a very tough break, no pun intended.

I don't think I'll be selling this one, Just got it in September too. I'm fucked! :(
thanks guys. I'll try to work it out.
- auricom0
can you take some pics of it for me so i can check it out. give me an idea of what may be involved to fix it.
if it's too hard on you to take pics, i'll understand.
- ible0
Shit thats like dropping a baby!!
- piperboytoy0
sorry but my digital camera isn't compatiable with my mac so I can't get any pics of my broken computer.
I still feel like kicking myself. I should have never brought my computer out yesterday, as I didn't need it at all. Fuck this sucks ass.
- mitsu0
if it boots up, then you have nothing to worry about. i've put a few broken ones together with much more that just cosmetic damage.

My G4 15" fell off an airport security table (in a bag) Now I see the surface to the right of the trackpad is bowed up a bit in the corner... Is there an easy fix?
- mitsu0
unfortunatley, not. pulling out the motherboard and all attached components is very difficult and you can actually see the board bend as you try to pull it out.
if the damage isn't that bad, i'd just leave it alone or take it to a certified apple repair technician as they are liable for any further damage.
- mitsu0
sorry, got ahead of myself. the reason you'd need to do this is to replace the top part of the laptop case. this is of course assuming that it can't be bent back into shape - and most cannot.

just contacted Lufthansa to see if they wil pay for repair... (their X-Ray belt pushed my bag off the end of the table)
