I am going in Jan for 2 weeks...I am also interested to hear about people's experiences/reccomendations...I want to go diving somewhere...

I've been twice, once on train and once to visit the Pacific Ocean side. Awesome, beautiful, colorful, dynamic, dangerous and nice food and people, when they are not thinking about attacking you.

http://centralamerica.com/cr/map… the bay at Puntarenas is quite nice and excellent Fish and other seafood. They mix it in with sweet fruits from the jungles. !Muy Excellente! Chirripó is nice for bird sancturaries and viewing the jungle.

Are you flying into San Jose or what what? I would advise taking a train from Mexico all the way down if you get a chance, it's quite interesting the things you see. :)

my fiance stayed there for 6 months during college in an exchange program. he said the best thing he ever did was made friends with some local young people there. they took him all over the place.
- JazX0
BTW, there is great surf there if your into that kind of thing. Not a lot of sharks.

we're flying to san jose
tickets are booked already.
i think we will be in the area you mentioned jasx
first we're going to volcan arenal then we're taking the ferry from puntarenas over to playa naranjo-i heard the ferry ride is very nice. then heading to montezuma for a bit and then to mal pais/santa teresa for a bit

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet! Trust me, you're going to have the time of your life. 'Puntarenas' is one of, if not the, best place(s) in all of Central America. How's your 'Spanglish'? Your gonna' love the food, but watch the water, it's even worse there than it is in Mexico, you don't want to play that game. :)

i think playa coco and playa ocatal is good for diving
i've used frommers.com for my online research. pretty good resource

ok def. won't drink water.
my spanish is ok.
i have a spanish book which i can study on the plane.
i think the places where we'll be there will be a lot english speaking people.
- JazX0
I'm sure, if your Spanish is at least decent you'll have an even better time. It's fun to talk to kids, because I was always at their level os speaking. That should be a blast.

i love kids, just not at the beach when i'm trying to chill!

TaraTara...yes I have the Frommers too ;) playa coco and playa ocatal are on the list!...I'm definitely going to check out Puntarenas as well...fresh seafood mmmmm....I can't wait, I've never been to that part of the world before...I'm travelling with peeps who have been to CR though...

def. can't wait to just take lots of pictures, read books and enjoy the scenery. just from all the booking i've had to do for hotels, etc. the people seem very nice and laid back. the pace seems so much slower. living in nyc is so hectic and fast paced
i've done so much planning it is going to be weird to actually be there! but nice i'm sure
