Ok, so this freelance thing is finally starting to work. I need to start getting a branding package together.

Unfortunately, as I've dropped out of the design world years ago, I'm not sure what this would involve.

I have a logo I've designed (thanks to a bit of cleanup by the all powerful boz), and now it's time to start stamping it onto everything and hit the printers.

So where do I go from here? What should I have? I figuer business cards, envelopes and letterhead and invoices. Anything else? How much should I invest?

I always make a yearly calendar for my clients, cheesy idea, but if you design it well, you can make one they'll want to hang.

usually use the past years designs and illustrations, but as you are just starting you might have to develop some other content

well, i've bee na developer for over 5 years (and a designer for a few years before that). Just that I can finally afford to create an image for myself.

That said, I haven't done much visually creative work in a couple years now. Too much time wrappign my head around code.

Defintiely a great suggestion, nonetheless.. thanks brundle

Business cards are a must - there are a tonne of online services that will give you a few thousand for under $100 - I used them before and they're great if you're just starting up.

Also if you're still in early phases I wouldn't waste too much on getting anything else.. letterheads and envelopes and thankyou cards you can do on demand with your home injet. I find most communication is done through email via PDFs Word docs or online invoices, etc. A fax cover sheet is a must but you can print one of those out yourself also.

If you want to do some self promotion consider getting some of that business card sized CDRs (the round ones... the square ones suck) - invest in developing a flash auto-run CD that sells yourself and send it out to all your potential clients. Be selective in who you send them to because if you're going with random mail-outs you will waste lots of money.

    great suggestions mick.

I'm actaully trying to avoid the injet route. That's what I've been doing for almost 7 years now. I'd like to have some well designed printed material for correspondence, etc.

I absoluiltey agree with pdfs for proposals and such, although I've always felt letterhead and envelopes to be good for general mailings that I don't have somehting pre designed for.

Same for business cards. I've no issue with using an online service, but I do want a lil more flavor in my cards. epecially since I go to a lot of new york industry parties out here.

The thing about the cdr's is that I have a personal bias against them. I've always thought of them a bit clunky and gimmicky.

    Definitely good stuff. thanks Mick

I just used www.vista-print.co.uk for my biz cards, pretty cheap and fairly good quality.

I'm only doing it for a personal project that makes me no moeny yet so I'm after everything on the cheap so £20 for 250 cards was pretty good i think.

anyone know of a place that can do fridge magnets really cheap?
