I wouldn't ask for anything less than 3 goats, two cows and one dozen eggs if i was you.
- shutdown0
but be prepared to negotiate with the eggs
- v3nt0
i hate goats, do u think they would swap them for more eggs?
- ILuvSushi0
seriously though i'm not sure what you should be charging.
you should charge what you and your clients feel comfortable with.
I know sometimes clients pay top dollar for shit and think clipart cds and dropshadowing is the way to go.

$50/hour at least

feel em out and see what they can afford. ive done sites for friends for $150 before, then turn around and charge a business $500+ for the same thing.
- v3nt0
so basically, get what u can!¿

Yup, went to charge a volunteer organisation 1000 euro for a website and they said that seemed very cheap for the work. Its gone up to nearly 2000 now cos of changes.

exactly...if you get work from a big company that just writes everything off on the corporate card, milk as much as you can out of it. i did a site for a reproductive medicine place (sperm bank) and was making $300+ on a few hours of updates maybe once or twice a month cause they didn't mind me charging $45/hour.
but if they have a budget try to feel em out and see what they can afford. pitch a little high at first and if they give you a sour face tell them you can work with them and to let you know what they can swing.
thats what i do at least.

A very interesting article about the state of our industry regarding 'fees'

you sound exactly like me, same location, skills, experience and all that. i try to charge £150 a day but rarely get away with it. i've got a full time job now but i do freelance stuff at that rate. usually whoever it is. i get picky now that my time is limited, clients seemt to respect that,

don't charge per hour, charge per project
what are you whores?
- ian0
Im a whore. And I loves it, just like a not very good looking or sophisticated 'American Gigolo'.
- JazX0
3,000,000 Pounds per minute.
- wesfx0
i only charge per hour when im doing updates...otherwise its a flat rate.
- v3nt0
i only charge by the hour cos i have ended up doing 19 hour shifts before a pitch. If i get control of a project i would work out a ~ price for it, but still watch my hours.
