when you travel how do you manage a connection? Do you have a dial up account? It's tough because I use a cable connection and if I leave for Christmas how am I suuposed to connect?

yes, a dial-up account.. and for extreme emergencies bluetooth with a t68i but thats literally just to check email cos its so slow and expensive.

Internet cafe.
Or what the crap: enjoy the vacation (without a connection)

airport (wifi) card, steal connections or look for wifi hotspots. works well in major cities.

AOL (only reason I have it)... dial in almost anywhere.
GPRS through my mobile (depending on the country).
GSM data calls back to the UK if I'm really in trouble...
or find an internet cafe with WiFi or ethernet cables to connect the laptop...
and worst case... just use an internet cafe computer and preferably an IMAP mail account so all your archived mail is available...

they have to figure this shit out. They should airport the world in such a way that you can drive and hold a connection.

and depending on the country... use pay as you go dial-in accounts, (such as Otelo in Germany), where you don't have to sign up..the access charge is part of the phone call, and all you need is the number, and the generic user ID/password from their website...
