they seem alright. only used one briefly. decent value for money if youre buying new. I nearly bought one, but didnt.. hmm thats wasnt much help was it!?

well... it was quite positive...
which is good... right..?

would a powerbook be too expensive?

i'd say theyre good for business and admin work. alot of receptionists have them.

powerful enough to do design on them too.. and don't say they're not.. cos people did work on slower computers back in the day :P
monitors not bad, specs are decent, price is decent. if your on a budget, why not? even if your not on that much of a budget you can add an printer, ipod, scanner, camera etc without spending 'too much'
i went for the powerbook myself though in the end... but that was only cos i hate sitting in one place all of the time.

a powerbook would be lovely..!
but a little too expensive...
so the Emac's tempting me more and more...

emac is a lil' loud, i would change the ventilator

slightly slower system bus and doesn't have the whack of backside cache as a tower but I reckon for the price you cant go wrong.. what £600inc for an 800mhz G4 with combo drive and 17" flat screen, thats pretty good.

are things like that actually important to people..?
my sh*tty old PC sounds like it runs on diesel...

when i packed out & started my 867 g4 i wanted bring it back, i thought that noise was a doa.... but it is that loud...

i got one - have a pc also. Works fine. The reduction in costs was simply a way for Apple to increase their market share. A more powerful computer wont make you a better designer. and if your worried about a slight hum well then go with the fashion parade and buy an overpriced powerbook.

never knowingly undersold...

ask if theyve got any returns.. a guy i know reckons he got an oldermodel powerbook for £400.. but then again, he always was a lying bastard.

yes! check occasion aond ebay first!

i've never been sure whether ebay was safe enough... especially spending that much money at once.
and what is this 'occasion' of which you speak..?
- rasp0
i got my powerbook on ebay. scary. nearly lost a lot of cash to a guy trying to con people. he had took over someone elses account.
anyway, the one i did but after i sussed it out is the best thing ive ever bought... and saved myself a WHOPPING amount of cash.
but as far as the emac goes AND if youve never bought from ebay before.. id say stick to the shops, company websites or mail order from the magazines.
that way your still getting a cheap computer, but it new and its got a guarantee AND somewhere to send it back to if it does go wrong!
