Looks good. I don't know about the blue gradient you have behind "Upcoming Event", "Ask Mara & ...", etc. It doesn't seem to go with the overall NY Times slick look.
Also, if the demographic is women in their early to mid 20s, I wouldn't use that photo of Mara and Ronnie.

any suggestions instead of the blue gradient?
also the ask mara and ronnie is very successful.....they are the owners of the store......and we have a section on our site where people can ask them questions....
but if you have any ideas for the blue gradient....and the bottom section with the quicklinks and the calendar........PLEASE PLEASE........ cause I need to get this done today........

I think the newsletter is acceptable as is...since you have a deadline for this issue and I'm sure you'll do more newsletters with stronger designs
Anyhow, maybe use a solid magenta or pink background instead of the blue gradient. The same magenta and pink as in the photo at the top. I wouldn't use drop shadows for the text. There's no other drop shadows in the newsletter -- so it seems out of place.
For quick links at the bottom -- since it's white text, it doesn't seem like hyperlinks. Maybe put arrows in front of them, like this >
Also put the copyright information in black text instead of gray. So that it would balance the black background just above it.
Hey, hope you also critique my newsletter -- I think I have to create mines in a week or so :)
