Recently I was asked by a client if they should purchase a .co.uk or .com domain for their expanding business to Europe.
Since I'm in Canada I really have no idea as to the answer and thought I'd turn to you guys for help.

I'd go for .om if its available.

.com is good enough if you're international but if it's a product/service which might be popular and the name is available the get it while you can.
.net as well
and i don't work for a domain reg company :)

uk = united kingdom not europe

The .com is available but the .co.uk is taken.
They plan to provide Real Estate services to anyone located in Europe.

I like .net because it sounds as if you were not part of the .com craze that fell flat. it sounds like you come from a more professional time.

.COM
doesn't mean U.S anymore...
.NET sounds like an internet provider, and was the reason it was set up.

yeah , but the reasons that things were set up have kind of got lost. As you say, .com doesn't mean America any more

buy them all.
There are regional domains for each country. But if they are like my clients, they wont want to pay for it.

get both
should localise the website in Uk as .co.uk
and .com as main site

Both, all, as many as possible.
Only promote the .com url, and forward all the rest to it.
Urls are relatively cheap, as a more of advertisement and the business a company could loss by not having what the customer types in could cost them much more then the annual price of the domains.
