I was given this movie clip to work with. It was captured on a Mac. I use a PC and the file doesn't seem to have an extension. Do I add a file extension so I can use this file in Premier? If so, what file extension do I add? Thanks

it doesnt matter that it was created on a mac or PC, if its a quicktime file, add the .mov extension to it. (assuming that it is a native quicktime clip)

yes, yust rename it to .mov if its a quicktime... if u have captured it MiniDV with premiere on the mac, then you have selected a video format there, check it and pur the correct extension.
In any case, you can open it 'hard way' with some ultraedit to see how the file starts and u will know what extension that it has...

Why is it that when someone sends me a file from an Apple, that it never has a damn file extension?

the os doesn't display filetype. typically, you need to run a utility such as macbinary to strip the header out of the file for use on a pc. that is where the filetype info resides.

because mac users dont need to use file extensions, they cant remember them all :p and the OS doesnt force you to do it like a win box.
but if you've ever worked in an operation thats bigger than 3 people PCs will get in the picture and your learn to use file extensions ALL the time.

considering the small percentage of people on Mac's v. PC's. I think that is very short-sighted.

vwsung18t,
when you click Import in Premier, you just select 'all audio and video formats" or "all files"...type * in the filename box and hit enter (not open/import, just hit plain enter), you will get the list of all files, find your file without the extension and double-click on it. Premier will recognize what file format it is.
