after 8 years of working in graphics first and web agencies then, I'm now facing the possibility of working as a freelance but unfortunately the golden 90s are gone...i don't like what the agency market is offering and im not sure i like the clients as well...a solution could be teaching in some lame design school...im sorru to bother you but ...whay do you think?

exactly the same sceanrio here. what i think is that when you got something to offer that differs enough from the rest of the scene you're in, do it! I have made it clear to myself i will need some discipline to keep myself going everyday and deal with some shit.
Sooner or later you have to be your own boss anyway.

teaching may not pay as much, but it might make you happier.

I'll be teaching as a atelierassistant two days in the week with wich i will make the amount of money that is equivalent of 60% of what i was making as a fulltime designer at the prev company i worked for.
From there on i will be doing my own stuff.
Hell YEAH!

good start!
teaching to get the primary bill paid...from there i can better decide what to do and what not to do...
thnx!

just make sure you teach people who actually wants to learn, having a high school class in "web design" is... unrewarding.

(jox)< it's true: it's scares a little bit the teaching thing mainly because i always didn't quite like my teachers in the past, except few exceptions, and i fear to loose contacts with the real world...

why not work to pay the bills and do the freelance the same as you would if you were teaching. just work a lot. :(
sounds like you need to refresh your client base. think of the client you want first, then do what it takes to work for them.
i know, im very optimistic :)

"teaching to get the primary bill paid"???
I put in twice as many hours a week teaching, just to make the same kinda money I was making when I was still producing stuff myself. Teaching graphic design is for the love of it (and maybe the gratitude from the cute young students ...)
