Do you mock-up sites in Photoshop or Illustrator?
I got frustrated with Photoshop this weekend (particularly the time spent in creating layers) so switched over to Illustrator 10 and loved it. Seems like its faster to test out ideas...
so why have I been using Photoshop to do mockups all these years???

We've discussed this here before. I do the final mock up in Photoshop. I get real pixel perfect alignment and when the client signs off on the comp, then my prodoction starts from that file. All i got to do it slice and dice.

I prefer Illy as well, but what happen when you have to use not anti-aliased text??
You need Photoshop for it...
So everytime is a mess.. I go crazy, I complain...
sorry... bad day today...

Photo all the way.

photoshop

photoshop of course.
Definitely not illu's job to do that, where's the alignment / positioning / cutting abilities in a illustration software?
- 4cY0
i use illy, but since I mostly rely on CSS I just make the mockup in XHTML right away.
I hate slices.

I haven't used it so maybe it sucks but Illustrator 10 has a slicing tool. It can also measure by pixels.

I use PShop, hate slices though.

woah...
"in this corner!... photoshop users... in the opposite... those who favor illustrator!..."
I guess it probably depends on the users style of design as well... I know I do web design... and you will very rarely catch me using illustrator unless I am snagging a logo for use on a site.

I think people don't understand the main purposes of these programs.
Illustrator = vectors
Photoshop = pixelsYou work with photos in photoshop, vector forms in illustrator and put them together in Quark, or InDesign, no?

I drink Illy every mornin'

well, whatever floats yer boat.
go forth and design like jesus!

I guess it just basically comes down to preference then.
Not too keen on the "should" use Illustrator for vectors and "should" use Photoshop for pixels...if you haven't noticed, Illustrator has tried to make itself more amenable to web designers.
- nick0
slicing in illustrator is like using the pen tool in photoshop
- oeuf0
"Not to keen on the "should" use"
Illustrator was made to work with vector forms, photoshop was made to work with pixels and Quark was made to put them together.
printwise.
- oeuf0
Using the tool that was made for the job is just common sense.
- subSTANCE0
I don't think a lot of the originators in the design world would so keen on the "should" word either...
- oeuf0
why?
- 4cY0
i work easier with Illy, positioning is a breeze...
so.... f#ck 'should'.
