looks a little "old"
maybe add some text on the bottome.. let me know when you have done that

old?
what do you mean by that. There will be placeholder latin text in the white boxes at the bottom. but im looking for overall layout advice.

i think the layout is nice, but I don't find that the nav is very intuitive. It seems to fade into the top bar. Nothing really grabs my eye in terms of what I am suppose to click on. Specially if it is geared towards an older audience, parents, who arn't as curious as the younger web users.

oke then.
i like the kids drawing in the back. nice concept.
maybe put the join the newsletter thingy at the bottom. to make it more dominent. or make it dominent some other way.
contact info/sublinks will have to be at the bottom.
swap the right with the left head at the top.
will there be links? best bet for the links will be in that mid aqua/blue bar
thats my opinion

ikbenvanrjn.. joing newsletter lingie where at the bottom? i dont want it to be below the fold where someone would have to scroll way down. i thinking of only having the contact and join newsletter appear in that area when the navigation buttons are clicked. what do you mean by will there be links? the links (navigation) is at the top.
maybe i should be more specific. im looking for suggestions on what i can do to make the navigation better. right now it just looks placed there. im kind of stuck at this point. so im looking for more specific direction if anyone has any. im kind of hitting a wall here.
if anyone has any inspiring links to navigation examples that could fit in an area like that.. im open to that too.

sorry.. thought your top "nav" was just descriptive text. i looked real quick.
looking at the site, i thought the nav would be in a different place

Shellie, what about if you moved the nav into one liine along the bottom of the top blue bar, and put the logotype up in the top left and made it a tad smaller, I made up a comp just so you know what I am trying to say, I also think it could work if you put the nav into little boxes to help seperate them and to make them stand out more.
the comp is up at

lookin nice shellie.
one thing that might look nice with the layout is more color. the reds in the kids drawing works great with the blue youve chose, and it might look nice to use that color elsewhere. perhaps in the headers or even in the links. of course it would be easy to over-do it, but i think that with the right touch of color, it would really bring an already nice layout together.
as for the links, you might could do something as simple as leaving them where they are, but for a rollover, have an underline in the reddish pink color. or possibly a gradation from pink to white on the letters. following me? it would keep everything simple, wouldnt require a redesign and would give the layout an even softer look.of course all of that is just an idea based on personal preference. lookin good! =)

looks nice! I do agree with M. Duncan's comment. My only suggestion would be if you could try making one of the thin blue strips orange. A little bit o color to liven it up just a tad. Or not.

Looks nice shellie, but I agree with mduncan about the position of the navigation... that one doesnt seems links, they are to much closer.
Also I would make the content text a little bit bigger...

Apart from the cute drawings in the background, it looks kinda corporate.
I know you say it's for adults and about children, but it has a business sort of feel to it - maybe lighten the mood with some more (or a different) colour?

I like mcduncan's idea, it makes it look a lot clearer.
and the kids-drawings are indeed nice.

I agree about the nav - I didn't even notice that it was a nav!
type and colour are very dull and uninspiring. Come on girl brighten it up a bit - get it bouncy like your site!
