i should also note, this only occurs on large bodies of text that is sent

I had a similar problem, and one of the thing I'discovered is that (for common portuguese characters: á, à, ã, ç, etc...) I had to do something about the message's encoding...

there are no special characters...only regular.
i am using 10 paragraphs of generated text from http://www.lipsum.com/

have you tried urlencode the string to the php script?

the problem seems to be with mediatemple
i tested it on my own server 23style.com and it did not occur!

*bump
has anyone experience anything like this before
the server it screws up on is MT running PHP 4.1.1
it runs fine on my server aletia.com running PHP 4.3.2
there has to be some fix

ok. I had to fix some of the syntax in my scripts because of major changes from 4.0 to 4.2. There were a lot of modifications in the global variables $GET, $POST, etc... and _global being turned off due to PHP security issues...
Anyway is MediaTemple's obligation to have the latest version of PHP....

damn, i wish they would just upgrade to 4.3.2 .. that would solve all my problems i think ;)
i wish we could invest in a dedicated box
