I'm about to set up my home office and want a cool, functional desk. Any ideas where I can search/buy one online...something that's not alot of $$. I looked at IKEA and they don't have anything I like. I want fantastic without spending too much.

Y'know a friend of mine had a good idea. He bought these flat panelled doors (which are nice n big) from home depot and stuck some premade legs on em-and voila custom desks.

I went down to Ikea and bought one of those Norden dining room tables. Super sturdy, TONS of work area, and pretty cheap. Yes, their desks suck.

i made an awesome desk out of a plain door(with no holes on it). and some table legt from ikea. I painted it and even but some crown molding on the sides... it cost me about 60 bucks total. i had the table cut down a little shorter becayse my room isnt that big.. but its really deep with tons of room to have my big monitor.. keyboard and tablet right in front of me.
if can build it,.. you can. mine came out great. ive had friends ask me where i bought it. you really cant mess up. if you want to put crown molding on the sides (so it looks more like those pottery bard style tables) any wood supplier will cut the 45 degree angles for you and make sure everything matches up when you buy the door. i used a semi gloss paint so the table is easy to whipe off when i spill my soda on the keyboard ;)

if you want to splurge on the door desk idea... you can have a giant peice of glass cut.. it'll be a little expensive but you'll get a really nice table in the end that looks like you spent 900 bucks or more.
