thanks for the tips.
i'm really interested in motion graphics in general. not necessarily character animation or anything, but more object animation and compositing/effects.
sounds like both are good for this sort of thing.
nobody has any idea about the SVA quality of classes, eh?

My bet would be that if the clases are about software, they are going to be bery similar, once you get the basics THEN you are going to start experimenting and learning, at least that is my experience, with the software clases I took..

Pretty diffrent.
Combustion is more ''professional'', you need a very powerful machine to run it. Its not really for using at home ... its more a post-production tool in post-prod firms. I suggest you to learn A.E. You can do almost everything in it.

anybody else?

For what I understand, they are both for different things, so before learning any of them, you should choose what direction do you want to take

Combustion is nice. Very easy to use and understand. The last company I was with paid for a 2 day training course. We were going to integrate our software with Combustion. Never happened.
Anyways. I like combustion better. The designer I worked with their used After Effects more.
It all depends on you. Comubustion looks cooler and is probably respected more around visual effects heads then AE. As far as end result is concerned, you can do the same with both.
Combustion is a heavier program to run.
hope that helps.

But, if someones going to be teaching you this stuff . .. and you have a choice ..
go with combustion. AE is so easy to learn by yourself. Why not get the training for combus .. then later teach yourself AE. That way you cover all bases.

Yo Cock boy...
You think AE is easier? I heard the same thing from the designer I worked with.
I felt Combustion was easier. The interface was much cleaner and not so cluttered. Because the timeline is so restricted, you have more open space for the video. Everything in Combustion is so compartmentalized.
I guess it depends on who uses it. I think you can get a free trial of both tools. You should grab them and see which is easier. Then take the course for the more difficult.
They can both do the same although certain things might be easier in one then the other.
goodluck chief.
FRESH!
it haunts you... =)

nobody has any advice?
aahhh...
what to do, what to do....

The only thing I can say is After Effects is more widely used.
So... if your not planning on working there forever it might be easier to find a job.
On the other hand Combustion is a more specialty program that could land you big bucks since there are less people who know that software.
That's all I can come up with. Sorry :)

if you ask wich is best.. il asnwer AE
because i love it..
But knowin combustion is like knowing little brother of discreets flame and flint.. and thats a big bonus
but still AE is my love
- Meeklo0
Do you like beter photoshop or the ceasar chicken sandwich?
- phs0
you wanna be an animator? composite guru? Id go by what your goal is in the field, not what program to learn. Cause that will always change.
- phs0
in other words, decide what skill u want, then choose the prog. otherwise its pointless.
- majman0
good advice...
do you think I'll have a difficult time understanding Combustion w/out knowing AE. Or are they pretty different?
