oi.
project: 72" tall 68" wide.
grid with movable magnetic lettersproblem: 10gauge steel is close to 300 lbs at this size.
what else would work for the backing that would allow these lil nifty magnets to stick?
is there a lightweight substance that could be used? i think there is, but i just dont know. . .
we do a lot of magnetic decals n shit like that, but never anything this damned big.
oxoxox

Use cork board or gator board with a thin sheet of stainless or aluminum or steel or whatever.

we could wind up using gator board if we find a lighter material, but as of now, the 10 gauge steel sheet is gonna weigh close to 200 lbs. alone. then you got all the magnetic pieces that stick to it, so we can assume that the entire piece will be somewhere around 300lbs.
seems like that might be the best we can come up with. the shop guys dont really do this kinda work, and steel/iron is all they know that a magnet will stick to.
so if no one here knows of anything else, then i guess we'll just have to do what we have to do. . .

Hey Bio..
I beleive that you can mix powdered steel with paint and then apply the paint to any surface.

Nice mate. Keep on keepin on.

you can mix iron filings into paint to create magnetic boards - it is true.
works especially nice with chalkboard paint!
