when is the last time you've rebooted your system?
- oculasm0
you mean reinstall everything?
that was ages ago..

this is such an obscure problem though.. reinstalling everything is very drastic.. but I had considered it.

no... reboot as in, shut it down and start it back up again
some people never turn off their PC's

I don't know what to tell you, but it seems that something is eating CPU cycles
I'd hit ctrl-alt-del and take a look at your system processes

thanks mate.. I have done .. they all seem to be legal process and yeah it does feel like something is eating my cpu cycles! *I've actually verified each of the processes are windows related by searching for their names on google*

the only other thing I can suggest is maybe clearing your "temporary internet files"
tools>internet options - delete files
- oculasm0
good suggestion.. its the first thing I did.. temproray internet files.. temp files anywhere..
scandisk.. motherboard voltage check.. you name it.. ive tried...
- oculasm0
thanks for your suggestions though..

35 megs of updates later and I'm still having the same issue.

I had a similar problem after installing Windows Hotfix 811493 from the Windows Update website. There is a conflict between the hotfix and virus scanning software.

BTW, Microsoft’s solution to this problem: ‘uninstall the virus software’. I uninstalled the MS hotfix instead.

thanks but I actually dont have any anti-virus software running. none apart froma spybot immunizer.. hmm maybe I should disable that and see if it resolves the problem..
thanks for the tip!
