I have a sudden opportunity to submit some photographs to a magazine and I'm in need of a bit of help.

First off...I have never done this before but I have talked to a few people about it and I've been told to send some type of letter or cover letter along with the slides.

Does anyone have any links to an example of this or any other tips to submitting slides to publications...or even better yet some experience doing it.

First off, Do not send orginals, make duplicates first. The odds of you getting them back, even if they use them, are low. Also, make sure you have a name to send them to, a person. Magazines get tons of submissions all the time, and it's up to you to keep track of them. Also, its a good idea to give a follow up call. A letter is good, just tell them who you are and what you are submitting the images for, and all your contact info. Oh yeah, put you name and phone number on every slide you send, they will get seperated.
And good luck, if you have any other questions feel free to email me. And if you don't hear anything from them for a while, try sending stuff again, timing is the most important element in this business.
