I want to get good speakers, preferably self powered, for general use, but I want them to sound good. Any suggestions?

Depends on how much cash you're ready to spend.
My tip is however to buld yourself a pair of these:
http://www.geocities.com/diyproa…This is an exact clone (same dimensions, drivers, x-over values etc.) of the ProAc Respons 2.5:
http://www.proac-loudspeakers.co…I just built me a pair, and they are exelent.
If you build yourself, the cost is €500-700.
If you buy the original ProAc, the cost is about €4300.
I had never built anything before in my life, and I didnt find this hard to build at all.

Proac speakers are incredible. A friend in college got some to take back to malysia after grad. Best speakers I have ever listened too, and I have listened to a lot. If i could afford them i would buy them in a second. This home build is making me think I will be able to afford some. Thanks for the link.
