Anyone know what the volkswagen font is (look at Drivers wanted. graphic on vw.com)?
i would guess it is custom but what face is it based off of, that "a" is really unique. any help would be great!
thanks in advanced

yes it's custom. I believe it is based on the bauhaus/avantgarde style typography..
I found a good story on it somewhere.. lemme look it up.
One of my fave fonts as well.
Too bad it's their own.

it's based on Futura, VAG Rounded was designed for VW as well, in the early 70's.

4cY,
thanks for the info I actually have the VAG rounded volkswagen font but i dont have the one based on futura, i thought it looked like it was based on futura, but no points (sharp edges) threw me off.
thanks again for all the info!

yeah, unfortunatly i lost that link, and I forgot the designers name, altho German MetaDesign has done a lot for their new look lately, esp. spicing up the logo, but I am not sure about the typeface.

You can only get a copy of it through working with them and if you share it, in any form or fashion, you will get gutted and fed to wild Asian boars.

hehe, yeah sorta.
that's what i thought.

Do they actually still use the VAG Rundschrift anymore? I am doing a concept for the Beetle but I can't find any examples of the font in any of their material, only the Futura- based UKW Grotesk.

VW use a suite of custom fonts. The two main fonts (based on Futura) are called VW Copy and VW Headline. They also use a range of VW Utopia (probably over 30 fonts in all) but they are hardly used at all. The VW Headline and Copy fonts have had a few overhauls in the last few years, it's pretty ridiculous. They're supplied to you on CD if you do any advertising for VW and they're also usually sent out free of charge to local dealerships.
