Islandbridge, you not only cured my AE problem, but now I have the option to paste paths or shape layers into Photoshop for the first time since I started using AI 10. I owe you big time. That was a two for one tip. Thanks.

I tried again, exactly as you and Adobe told me, but it didn't work. Are you on OS X?

Open Preferences in AI. Choose files & clipboard in the dropdown. Check AICB -Preserve Path...or something like that ..I think =)

yeah, this should work...i do more AE work in OS9 just because of plug-in, but in AE5.5 it works for me.

I'd really like to know if anyone knows about this. For now, I just drew my mask in After Effects. All I wanted was a rounded box that will change size, but retain the roundness of the corners.
Next time, I might need a complex shape. I only like to draw in Illustrator. No other program has a better pen tool. Not even Photoshop.

this does work.....click on the layer in the timeline window, then paste. i've only had luck doing this from illustrator, so if you have a path in photoshop, just paste it into illustrator first.
also, if you highlight the position of a layer, and paste a circle for example, you can get the object to travel in a circle.
AE is sooo nice
