Too many forums?

It seems as though there are too many forums now than ever before for designers. Don't you think it will spread us thin? Not too sure but it seems like NT has a hold on the most active forum (minus weekends of course) but during the weekdays it can get crazy in here.

I'm loving CL but Newstoday seems to have a nice feel to it, if you know what I mean. It's just easy to sit on here for hours, maybe something to do with the grey.

yeah, NT is like a pair of old shoes.... the grey is nice, not too harsh....

could do without the sound effects though, for return visitors it just gets old...

what's the difference really? It's just a fun place to hang out, that's my opinion. Whatever you pick up along the way it great. ;)

Regardless of yourliking NT over whatever - I mean don't you think that there are too many forums for us? It just feels like everyone saw that TDR and NT were working so now everyone has one. I am suprised that we haven't seen k10k offer one or SS yet. Only a matter of time I imagine than people will just get bored and stop visiting all together. This is my prophecy.

The way I see it, the different forums offer different things. The PV-AN is (for me) a quick and easy thing, where I post mostly for fast answers, or fast crits...
I'm also a regular on YayHooray, where I get my fix of more in-depth discussions and collaborative projects.
And I pop by Typophile when I need typographic help or want to check out fonts in progress and stuff.
I think that if you investigate the forums that are out there, you will find that there's not too many of them, they are just targeted different. Find your favourite and stick to it.

I thinkthe more forums the better, just like gene pools. These places seem to get two or three prevailing cultures (the ie anti-ie factions here for example) and if these discussions go on in different forums then you get a better chance of less repetitive discussions. The more decentralised the forums the more effective they will be technically (eleviate bandwidth problems etc.) and culturally (less focus on useless personal vonversations etc.)
