I got a mail today with a message that someone has signed me up to a lot of mailing lists about the gay xxx industry. In the mail, one of the paragraphs said:
"There are a lot of weird people out there who play "practical" jokes on their friends, signing them up for various newsletters. I don't want to send them out to people who are not truly interested in the content. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience getting this letter has caused you."
Why the hell do people sign other people's email addresses up to shit like this?
What the fuck have I done to you? I get SO much porn in my email every day, and the only places my email adresses are public are Newstoday and Yayhooray.
If you have something against me, send me an email telling me how much I suck instead of doing shit like this.
By the way, it seems this is the IP of the person who signed me up:
203.27.69.94 (through proxy4.syd.pacific.net.au)

you too eh?...
christ..the only email addy i use regularly is my work address...
getting a bit ridiculous to see how many pron emails im getting there..
and likewise...
the only place its really open to is here..
i personally suspect that back in the glory days of the iraq-us-canada-france-blah blah threads, someone got a tad miffed and signed us all up to pron in a fit...
seriously, if ya have a snit here, or dont' agree with somone, deal with it here...
sending them a ton of pron emails is the equivelant of a grade 3's prank phone calls...unless of course the call ends with shouting REQUIEM!!!!
in which case, its funnier than hell..
:)

i think the newstoday threads are harvested for email addresses by spam companies. I noticed a huge jump in the level of spam I receive when I originally signed up.

Little rat kids on Newstoday are signing people up for porn sites etc. If I knew who they were I'd take a leak on them.
- exador0
think its a bit of both really..
some harvesting, and some lame ass 'ill get you' shit from kids...
also, one thing ive noticed is polling..
ever noticed that some of the questions here, like how much do you make, and such..some of em sound like poll questions?..
and when you check on whos asking...many times it's some screen name you've NEVER seen here before, and they've got like 1 post...
hmmmm...marketing research me thinks...

Hm... What's fucked up with having your inbox infested with porn spam is that the only way to get rid of it is to change your email address, and I can't do that because I use my email address for both professional and personal emails...

I'm not a robot ffzzzzz I'm alive I tezzll youzzzzzfff..
Dave, my mind is going.

Filter it out and unsubscribe, all the porn mail I get says i've somehow subscribed or been added to these lists, just go through the removal process and it quiets em up for a few months. Filtering and that are the best way.
- atomica0
Oh, and just remember it could be worse, you could be on AOL.... where you automatically are sold to hundreds of spam services. LOL.
- unknown0
all the porn mail I get has dud links to the unsubscribe thingy.
I'll sign you up to a few so you can see for yourself.
- schjetne0
I've done the mistake of clicking "unsubscribe here" a couple of times... Yeah THAT shuts them up allright.

I don't think there are people at NT who manually post your e-mail address to some porn shit ...
but then again, I've never been in a fight with anybody here

i have one email address i have never used, hotmail. but even then when i occasionally look it is full of porno spam. it has not been published anywhere so it must come from the hotmail system.
in fact it gets more spam than by regular hotmail account
- exador0
for the most part smartk, i'd agree with you,
this place can resemble a mutual appreciation society most of the time..
but like anywhere else, you do get the occaisional asshole once and awhile..
and i get the feeling one or two of em have been up to tricks..
;)and if memory serves me correctly, about a year ago, this happened to vena...
or someone else we all know..
i remeber reading a thread about it..just like this one..
so its definitely not a new thing around here..
happens from time to time ...
;)

spammers use random names and strings for the likes of hotmail. likelyhood is they'll get you eventually - even if you've never used the address.
scum sucking fuck-asses

i got put on some porn mailing list too. luckily I got signed up to one that tracks the IP address of where whoever signed me up. so I've got someones IP address.
I clicked on the unsubscribe and wrote to them that I was thirteen and that I really wasn't old enough to view porn. haven't gotten another since.just when I though my spam problems where over, it turns out that a friends wife belongs to some product email list. now i get spam from penis enlargers to 10 dvds for the price of one to website for $399. My friend and his wife have confessed and told me that they put my email on the list, they don't see whats so wrong. shes actually getting paid to do this while my mailbox is packed with shit.
there should be a law against this crap.

LOL. I just posted the same topic last week. Most of the time it a spam bot the plunders your ISP. it will run through the whole alphabet @whatever.com and your spam mail is born. How do you track the ip? I've got the same porn spam problem. It seems we are all signed up on the same lists. We should compare porn spam to see if we get the same stuff.

I am registered with
http://www.spamcop.net/
and systematically report spams. That's time consuming but it's worthwhile (I hope).
Check if your ISP is registered with an anti-spam system. They can place a spam warning in the header of the email and you can filter it with a rule in Outlook (not Outlook Express)

Is there a way to change my email in my profile here on NT.
- schjetne0
No.
- bhawk0
That blows.
